Newquay has that laidback feel that goes hand in hand with being England’s undisputed surfing capital. The centre of the action is Fistral Beach whose swells and Cribbar Reef produce some of the largest breakers in the British Isles. The long, sandy beach is backed by tall dunes which give way to Newquay Golf Club.
Great Western Beach lies below sheer cliffs one street from the train station, while Towan Beach by the picturesque harbour is the closest to the town centre. Tolcarne Beach is sheltered in its own bay, as is the wide stretch of sand at Porth Beach whose northern coastline is 2 rocky headlands joined by a narrow footbridge over the sea.
Each beach is overlooked by luxury hotels with spas, cheap hostels and self-catering apartments on Booking.com. All are surrounded by Newquay’s restaurants, bars and clubs which offer the best nightlife this side of Bristol.
More leisurely pursuits include Trerice manor house in the countryside near the Lappa Valley Steam Railway. Buccaneer Bay and the Blue Reef Aquarium are popular with families, as are Waterworld and Newquay Zoo within Trenance Gardens.
Another favoured spot for a walk are the salt marshes by the River Gannel which is a prominent sight as you descend into Newquay Cornwall Airport.
The best thing about Newquay for me is the magnificent...
The best thing about Newquay for me is the magnificent coastline of dramatic cliffs, rock pinnacles and sandy beaches - unsurpassed for a seaside town I have been to in my 75 years. For drivers the town is badly signposted but this is typical throughout Cornwall. I was hoping for more live music events but it seems the last week in April is not the time for these. I thought the Irish Bar next to the Victoria Hotel, frankly, grim. Not much else to say that makes this town much different from countless others in the UK.

If you go for service or a swim on a hot day, probably you will enjoy yourself. If you are on a city trip, you won't be pleased with Newquay and run away to atmospheric St. Ives. We didn't feel like it was a happy place, more of a Benidorm for flat beach entertainment. It is hard to find a nice place for a tea and scones. It is a bit derelict and has the feel of a lack of care. But that is common at many seaside resorts in the UK. A pretty view from the Aldi parking and further the only kind of highlight is the harbour. But you've seen that in a few minutes.

We enjoyed Newquay.
We enjoyed Newquay. It was much improved since our last visit in the summer several years ago when it was very hard to avoid drunken teenagers. We were less impressed with the amount of dog mess on all the pavements.

We are an older couple in our sixties, so Newquay maybe does...
We are an older couple in our sixties, so Newquay maybe does not hold the same appeal to us, as to a younger couple with kids, but, it was certainly a great base for exploring Cornwall.
We have to say that we did feel a little intimidated by some of the 'locals' around the train station. but that might just be an age thing.
The beaches and shoreline was very clean and well kept, and loved watching the surfers.
The location of the hotel is excellent, right in the centre of Newquay and just a few minutes from the sea and town centre. The rooms were very clean and comfortable, and lovely and warm, which we were very happy about as it was a very cold weekend when we stayed. We had an evening meal there and the food was excellent, the staff there are very friendly and welcoming. We also had breakfast there, and again it was excellent, cannot fault the food at all. We really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely stay there again.
Lovely hotel, friendly staff that were always available when needed and did whatever they could to help you enjoy your stay, really good size rooms and a lovely selection of delicious breakfasts.
Great location with a good view of the town and sea, a stone's throw away from the beach and the town centre and a 15 minute walk from Newquay Zoo which is fantastic.
Really enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again and reccomend to anyone.
I'd booked a twin room so it was a nice surprise to have both a double and a single bed in the room with plenty of space. Although we didn't have a sea view, there was a tantalising glimpse of the bay behind the hotel through the side window. It was nice being so close to the bay and the beach and the town, even though we weren't in what would be considered to be the 'posh' part (i.e. Fistral). The staff were friendly and helpful.
We had an amazing time at the Minerva guest house. The location was fantastic as was right on the beach whilst also being in the centre of Newquay city centre. The room was really lovely, clean and large with the most amazing shower. i really liked that the TVs in the bedrooms had access to Netflix and YouTube. My children loved the bunk beds in their room too.
the hosts were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble.
The location was superb, just in the heart of the tourist area with lots of restaurants and shops nearby. The beach was 5 min walk from the hotel. If you're lucky, you may get a seaview room. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Tried to give us comfort as much as possible. We got a roadside room which was kind of a busy road but the noise wasn't that extreme. The bed was comfy. Overall we had a very nice time.
amazing location, on the outskirts of Newquay in proximity to two beaches and away from busy streets but still walking distance to city centre and all of the restaurants, supreme sea view, very carefully crafted design, excellent facilities (fully equipped kitchen with plenty of accessories so you can actually do some proper cooking), washer/dryer, Sonos speakers, honestly wouldn’t have hoped for anything else
The staff are wonderful and the hotel felt like our little haven after staying there for seven nights while walking the Southwest Coast Path. we very much enjoyed our breakfasts there and the breakfast staff were all great! the location ion is a bit out of the centre but most busses stop around the corner at the Barrowsfield Hotel, so it’s convenient if you’re walking the SWCP.
the staff were amazing
we have stayed in many Hotels in Newquay over the years and this time we were blown away. It was good to have good old fashioned service and quiet piano music playing even the children / teens commented on how nice it was and so relaxing. it was good that there was very little 'tech' as it really gave us time to properly relax
Owner absolute amazing and friendly and knowledgeable. Close to the beach, bars, shops and restaurants so we never had to walk or go very far. Absolutely loved it. If your there for surfing defintly try bluewing surfing newquay. Cheap and very good provider next to the property
Extremely pleasant and helpful staff, such a beautiful location looking over one of Newquay's great beaches & very close to the town centre. Admittedly I only stayed for a surfing weekend, so didn't really use the Hotel facilities much but they seemed excellent.
The house has everything you need; beds are comfortable, rooms are spacious and there are views galore. The pictures genuinely don’t do it justice. it’s perfectly placed in Newquay for beaches and the main town.
We like room- big ,clean.Comfortable beds.Breakfast amazing. Location very good, close to beaches, quiet and not far from Newquay Town centre. We stayed for 2 nights and we very happy that we chosen this Hotel
We stayed at The Grey House in Newquay for 2 nights, it was an exceptional room with a fabulous sea view, the location of the hotel is brilliant with easy access to Newquay town centre. Great value for money
Absolutely loved staying here! The property was absolutely gorgeous - really tastefully decorated, absolutely PERFECT location for Fistral and Newquay town centre and really fab value for money for our trip!
The hotel is close to the city centre, breakfast was OK.
The indoor pool was good.
They grouped people for breakfast due to covid situation so the breakfast room was always with less number of people.
Very child friendly hotel! Many facilities for kids such as soft play, outdoor playground and the pool, but also nice extras such as games, books, teddy bear to keep and even milk & cookies for bed time.
The location is brilliant! Really close to Newquay and the amazing beaches but far enough away to relax. 5 minutes to a large supermarket also was really handy. You also have private parking.
We absolutely loved this hotel, right in the centre of Newquay, staff were so friendly and welcoming throughout our stay, reserved a parking spot right by the front door for £10 a night.
The décor was beautiful and very modern. The hotel was close to the sea and the town centre, which made seeing Newquay and all its little quirks easier!
